1. Who We Are

This extension adds an AI chat sidebar to your browser. It lets you send prompts to
third-party AI providers (such as DeepSeek, OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude and other
models offered in the sidebar) and shows their replies. This policy describes, comprehensively,
what data the extension collects, how it is used, how and where it is stored, and every party
it is shared with. No category of processing is omitted.
2. Data We Collect and Process
2.1 Stored locally on your device (via chrome.storage / localStorage)
This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to the developer:
- Preferences and settings — e.g. selected AI model, sidebar/theme options.
- A local identifier — a random UUID ("chatId") generated on your device to namespace local data. It is not based on your identity and is not sent to the developer.
- A feature flag ("chatFlag") and your acknowledgement of the first-run notice ("aiinhbfoop_user_consent").
- Authentication data — if you sign in to the sidebar's AI service, authentication tokens and basic profile data (e.g. an account token and the account "user" object, which may include your email/username) are cached locally so you stay signed in across sites. This data originates from the technology partner (aitopia) when you log in.
2.2 Data you submit to the AI (sent to third parties to provide the service)
When you use the AI features, the following is transmitted, through our technology partner
(aitopia) and on to the AI provider you have selected, in order to generate a response:
- The messages, prompts, and any text or files you choose to submit to the AI.
- Website content you choose to capture — for example a screenshot of the
current page, selected text, or page text — when you use a feature that captures it (such as
the screenshot or page-capture tools). This content is sent to the AI provider to fulfil that request.
- Conversation history within a session, so the AI can produce relevant replies.
- Account/authentication data needed to use the service (if you are signed in).
- Technical connection data that the receiving services collect by necessity (e.g. IP address, browser and device information). This is processed by those services, not by the developer.
Website content is accessed only when you actively use a feature that requires it (such as taking a
screenshot or sending selected text). The extension does not continuously read, monitor,
or transmit the pages you browse in the background, and it does not collect your browsing history (see Section 5).
2.3 Screen dimensions
Read at the moment a popup is opened, solely to center the window. Not stored and not transmitted.
3. How We Use Data
- Deliver the AI features — send your prompts to the selected AI provider and return the reply.
- Authenticate you — keep you signed in to the sidebar's AI service across websites.
- Remember your preferences — apply your settings locally.
- Display the interface correctly — e.g. position popup windows.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or analytics, and we do not sell it.
4. How and With Whom Data Is Shared
Your data is shared only with the following parties, and only to deliver the service you request:
- Aitopia (aitopia.ai) — our technology partner and backend processor. It powers
the sidebar, stores your authentication, and routes your prompts to the AI provider you choose.
This includes its service domains (e.g. api.aitopia.ai, cdn.aitopia.ai) and the related domain
chatgptextension.ai operated by the same provider. See
Aitopia's Privacy Policy.
- The AI provider(s) you choose — the prompts you submit are sent to the model
you select in the sidebar. Depending on your choice this may be:
We do not share your data with any other party, including advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers.
5. What We Do NOT Do
- We do not track your browsing history or the list of sites you visit.
- We do not continuously read, monitor, or record the pages you browse in the background. Website content (such as a screenshot or selected text) is accessed only when you actively use a feature that requires it.
- We do not collect or send usage analytics or telemetry. (A previous version of the extension contained URL-tracking code; it has been fully removed.)
- We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
6. Where Data Is Stored and How Long
- Local data (Section 2.1): stored on your device and retained until you clear the extension's data or uninstall it.
- Data processed by third parties (Sections 2.2 and 4): stored and retained by aitopia and the relevant AI provider according to their own privacy policies and retention periods.
7. Chrome Web Store Limited Use Disclosure
Our use of information received from Google APIs, and of all user data, adheres to the
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy,
including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:
- We only collect and use user data for the purposes described in this policy.
- We do not sell user data, and we do not transfer it to third parties except as required to provide and improve the user-facing features described here (i.e. to the AI provider you choose and our technology partner).
- We do not use user data for advertising, creditworthiness, or any unrelated purpose.
- We do not allow humans to read user data unless: you give consent, it is necessary for security or to comply with applicable law, or the data is aggregated/anonymized and used for internal operations.
8. Extension Permissions and Why They Are Needed
- storage / unlimitedStorage: save your preferences and authentication locally.
- system.display: read screen size to center popup windows.
- tabs: used to open and position the chat window and to notify open tabs when you activate the sidebar. It is not used to track browsing history.
- Host access (all URLs): inject the AI sidebar on the page so you can use it from any website.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location (e.g. under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access,
correct, delete, or port your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to lodge a
complaint with a supervisory authority.
- Stop AI processing: do not submit prompts, or remove the extension.
- Delete local data: clear the extension's data in your browser or uninstall it.
- Exercise rights held by third parties: contact aitopia and the relevant AI provider for data they hold (see Section 4).
- Requests to us: contact us at the address in Section 1.
10. Legal Bases (GDPR)
- Performance of the service (Art. 6(1)(b)): processing your prompts to deliver the AI replies you request, and authenticating you.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): storing your preferences locally to make the extension usable.
The first-run screen is an informational notice; the processing it describes is necessary to provide
the service, so it does not rely on consent. If we ever introduce non-essential processing, we will
request separate, opt-in consent (off by default) and disclose it here.
11. International Transfers
Because aitopia and the AI providers operate globally, your data may be processed on servers
outside your country. Those transfers are governed by the respective providers' privacy policies
and safeguards.
12. Children's Privacy
This extension is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction),
and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date
above and, where appropriate, through an in-product notice.
